Leadership Development Ideas

Have You Identified Your Next Tier of Leaders?

If you're involved in your men's ministry leadership team, ask yourself this honest question: if you've put a plan in place, are things getting done? If not, it may be that the men on your council, while committed and passionate about men being discipled and reaching out to the community, don't have the bandwidth to move the ball forward.

It's important, then, to start identifying that next tier of leaders - men from your survey that expressed a willingness and ability to lead and organize. These men could be tasked with a smaller scoped event or task, that has a clear start and end to it, and someone from your men's council could serve as their coach and encourager to see that it happens.

Some councils are made up of "doers" in your church body; others are made up of visionaries and those eager to see men's ministry happen, but who aren't available for much of the "doing". That's OK and quite common. It is important to periodically assess how and why your ministry to men may be stalled, and revisit whether you have the right folks in place to move your efforts forward.
