Try a Baseball Fantasy Camp for Spring
What better way to kick off Spring than getting guys together for a Baseball Fantasy Camp! And the folks at Castro Valley First Baptist came up with some really creative ways to involve men young and old and have some fun...
They planned this event as a great way to invite guys who may not regularly attend church, but would enjoy some baseball and get to know some Christian men in the process. To keep costs low, work with folks in your community who could donate the facility and equipment and their time. Charging $5 should be able to cover baseball-themed food and your prizes (things like t-shirts, baseball cards, and Big League Chew). Emphasize in your marketing materials that no baseball skills are required, and make sure to give out awards for the best and worst in each activity category!
Your day's activities could feature pitching for speed (using a Jugs Speed gun) and for accuracy (using a pitching target - number of strikes out of ten). Offer soft toss hitting, machine hitting, batting tee drills, and videotaping of their swings with a coach reviewing their efforts in a video room. Keep everyone moving by rotating among the various stations throughout the day. Include a brief testimony by a former major league ball player at the beginning of the day to integrate a spiritual element.
The guys at CV First Baptist reported having a great time! Give it a try this spring (or summer), and let us know how we can help.
