Pastors: Meet Regularly with your Men
Want to grow your ministry to men? Greatest success comes when the senior pastor spends regular time – in an informal, small group setting – with a group of current and potential men leaders. Regular, more business-oriented meetings also ought to occur between the senior pastor or designated pastoral staff person and men’s ministry leader.
One of the most important jobs the senior pastor has is discipling and mentoring lay leaders in the church. In a smaller church that can’t afford to have a large paid staff, this is even more critical. The senior pastor simply cannot carry the entire burden of shepherding his congregation. It is imperative that he mentor and train other men that can be raised up to encourage and lead other men. Your men’s ministry will be led by these men who have a regular and ongoing relationship with your senior pastor.
Also, in order to continually keep your men’s ministry aligned with your church direction, regular communication between the men’s ministry leader and the senior pastor or designated pastoral staff person is critical. We recommend meetings between the senior pastor and men’s ministry leader happen at least every other month.
Healthy churches and healthy, vibrant men’s ministries are based on authentic relationship - make these connections with the pastor a priority!
