Men’s Ministry Best Practices: Avoiding Common Failures

Men's Ministry Doesn't Cost Too Much

As we talk with churches and men’s ministry leaders, we often hear the following: “We can’t get a men’s ministry going because it costs too much. There isn’t money in the budget to start.” There is no reason why money should be an inhibiting factor in starting or re-launching your ministry to men. Consider this…

One of the easiest ways to get your men’s ministry jumpstarted (thus giving your church the ability to engage with us and tap into our consulting and resources) is through your kick-off event. You can take a one-time offering from the attendees after showing the vision and plan for your ministry to men, and let’s say 75 men gave $10 each, you can generate $750 in funding.

Men’s breakfasts held every other month can be another easy way to generate additional funds. Consider charging $5 per person for the breakfast and creating a menu that only costs you $2 per person to serve. If on average 75 men attend each one, you can generate $225/breakfast x 6 breakfasts = $1350 over the course of the year.

Don’t want to wait for an event to generate revenue? How about asking your men’s council – your core group of men committed to getting your men growing and reaching out – to sponsor the men’s ministry for a year? OCM’s current engagement fee of $83/month could be divided by 6 men, equaling $13.83/month or $0.46/day! It is that simple.
