Church Spotlight - David Shivers, Minister of Men and Evangelism, Preston Church in Plano, Texas
A couple of things that people don’t know about David Shivers is that he used to play for the Washington Generals and that his choice of cuisine for his ‘last meal’ would be anything from Taco Bell! Shivers is the leader of the successful men’s ministry of Preston Church of Plano, Texas and believes strongly that it’s important to biblically train and equip men to be spiritual leaders in their homes, in the church, and in their places of business. Their men’s ministry develops men in Christian living to make a positive impact for this generation and those to come. They accomplish this mission through Bible study, discipleship classes, evangelism training, leadership development, accountability groups, mentoring, retreats, mission trips and special events.
Shivers believes that in today’s culture, it’s increasingly important for men to honor God with their hearts and lives. Preston offers men classes on the following topics:
- Apologetics
- Discipleship
- Leadership development
- Spiritual growth
- Family and marriage (offered annually in the fall, spring and summer)
In addition, they provide a full menu of conferences (Becoming a Person of Significance, Grace is not a Blue-Eyed Blonde, High Impact Life, and Get in the Game) and a full roster of on-going classes that deal with anything from Developing the Attributes of a Faithful Believer to 26 Characteristics of a True leader.
One of the keys to the success of Preston’s Men’s Ministry lies in the belief of its Senior Pastor, Jack Graham, who believes that “The way you change the heart of a community is through changing the hearts of its men.”
