The Survey - Be Prepared for a "Consumer Mentality"
Unfortunately in American culture today, people are used to "having it their way." And conducting a survey of your men may very well set them up to think they will be served a men's ministry that they may simply partake of. You'll need to be intentional about countering that expectation and building a participation culture.
We often challenge men to consider whether they want to be spectators in the game of life or participants. Challenge your men at every opportunity to step up and participate, rather than spectate. It is so tempting to simply wait for the next men's thing to appear on the church calendar and just show up to partake instead of stepping in to help make it happen! This participation culture is a culture that needs to be developed and a message that must be underscored every chance you get. In fact, if you use the MMC survey, we put language at the top that helps set expectations with those filling them out that simply giving input isn't a guarantee that these activities will happen; you need people to help organize and lead them.
Remember, the goal with the survey is to help you find men who will help lead, not just find out what men's areas of interest are. Most successful pastors won't do anything unless there are at least two people willing to lead and execute an event or program. We encourage you to do the same.
When it comes to men's ministry, Men's Ministry Catalyst can be a great resource for helping you launch your survey and finding leaders.
