Valley Real Life : Claiming the Ground for Christ

Valley Real Life Ministries, located in Spokane Valley, WA, is preparing to break ground for a new facility. The men's ministry thought it would be an excellent opportunity to rally the guys.

The objective of the event was to pray and claim the ground for Christ by committing the community, construction and financing to God’s will and provision. They used a variety of promotional elements: they emailed the guys twice, put it in the bulletin, had the pastor announce it and they handed out flyers after the service.

The flyer explained the goal of the project and was clear about the details: the when, where, why, and HOW LONG (men like to know there's an end time), plus they used this promotional tool to invite men to 4whthe NEXT men's event.

They went to three locations on the property using four wheel drives, which added an element of fun and adventure. They pounded in a stake at each, gathered around each one, laid hands on the stake and each other and prayed. They prayed for three things: the financing, the construction, and the community (one area at each stake). There was coffee and muffins (it's always a good idea to incorporate food), and the outing took an hour and fifteen minutes.

Here were a few of the comments:

  • “This was the best men’s event we’ve ever had”
  • “It was awesome.”
  • “Thanks so much for giving the guys the opportunity to commit this land to God."

Lessons from Valley Real Life:

  1. They demonstrated support of the pastor's vision and church direction by bringing the men together around the new property
  2. They made at least FIVE touches to the guys to let them know about this event
  3. They leveraged THIS event to communicate about the NEXT event
  4. They kept it short
