Leadership Development Ideas

How do YOU hear from God?

This month we want to touch on the importance of spiritual leadership not just organizational leadership. If you are going to challenge your men to hear from God and live transformed, Christ-centered lives, you as a leader need to walk the walk, and seek the Father yourself, really listening and removing the things that block that communication.

So how do you hear from God? Here are four ways:

  • Through Prayer
  • Through God's Word - the Bible
  • Through the Pulpit
  • Through mature Brothers in Christ

And whatever blocks communication with Christ is considered "clutter." The most common things are hurt, lust, inadequacy, anger, shame, rebellion, unforgiveness, fear, pride, and guilt. We encourage you to honestly examine where there are blockages and clutter in your life by asking yourself these questions:

  • What’s consuming your thought life?
  • What’s blocking you from truly communing with God?
  • What’s really between you and God?

Start by taking your thought-life captive. Claim this verse: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NIV) - The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Then, use this 2-step process: 1. Give and receive forgiveness and 2. Confess and repent.

The reality is, your men's ministry must be about transformation. It's not just about having fun and getting to know other guys. It needs to be about real men meeting the real Jesus. And it starts with you, clearing the clutter and surrendering daily the things that keep you from hearing from God.
