Identify Some Measurable Goals and Benchmarks for your Ministry

Have you ever started an endeavor without first establishing a way to measure progress? You may know intuitively whether you achieved your objective or not, but if you are working with a team, being explicit about your goals is critical if you are going to sustain a ministry to men.

As you begin to develop your men's ministry, we recommend you take a "snapshot" of your starting point, and then revisit those same dimensions a year into your efforts. Areas to consider tracking include:

  • The diversity of men represented in your ministry area along dimensions like age, spiritual maturity, economic, ethnicity, etc.
  • The spiritual depth of the men involved
  • The % of men in your congregation involved in your men's programs
  • The % of men reaching out to others

Depending on the size of your church, w ays to measure these areas can include conducting an annual survey, relying on feedback from your men's ministry leaders or using anecdotal data from conversations with men in your church. No matter how you do it, make a point to track some key aspects of your ministry so you know if you're hitting the mark or need to make some course corrections.
