Robert Guerrero – A Fighter with a Heart for God

MMC is pleased to highlight a unique opportunity to create an event for your men’s ministry or just for you to use as a way to invite some friends over to your house. Sports are always a favorite among men and we certainly do our fair share of using them as a great in-road for conversations that ultimately lead to spiritual matters. Recently, we were made aware of a professional fight taking place in Las Vegas, NV that is going to be televised on Showtime PPV on Saturday May 4th. This fight is between Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Floyd “Money” Mayweather. What’s of particular interest to us is the excellent testimony for Christ that Robert Guerrero is sharing with anyone who will listen.

We thought this might be a cool event to use for a men’s group that would set up some good conversation about the fighters that could lead to discussion about spiritual matters. If you’d like to learn more about Robert Guerrero, there is an excellent article on Sports Spectrum’s website. This article goes into great detail about Robert, his relationship with God, the struggles he and his wife faced when she was diagnosed with leukemia, and much more. We also have included several other links to video and articles about this solid Christian fighter.

Reach America – A Youth Program Designed for Impact

Gary Brown, a native Georgian and pastor, is the founder and president of Reach America in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Recently Gary accepted MMC’s invitation to speak as a seminar leader at the Spokane Valley Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference. Gary is involved in some exciting ministry in North Idaho and his vision for the youth of America is catching on with not only those in North Idaho, but across the nation. We are excited about Gary’s passion and we want to share a little bit about his desire to empower the younger generations with the tools necessary to reach America and beyond with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The following is taken from Reach America’s website:

In Acts 17:28, the Apostle Paul writes, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” In essence, where our kids “live” and “move,” they “become.” Our youth are attending church for a couple hours, but they are living and moving in a world that no longer recognizes Christ as God. Actually, should we be surprised at what our youth are becoming?

In Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, we are creating a C-4™ Community, A Christ-Centered, Counter-Culture. The biblical foundation for a C-4 Community is Jesus’ ministry with His disciples, Acts 17:28, and Paul’s ministry found in 1 Thessalonians chapters one and two.

A C-4™ Community is a vibrant, growing group of Christian youth and their families on a mission. These Christians love Jesus and have a burning desire to see their family, their friends, their community, their state, and America come to Christ. This is important: When people come into our C-4™ Community, we do not become like them, they become like us, then Christ.

The object of a C-4™ Community is to create a Christ-centered culture that is counter to what the American culture has become. We believe we can be more effective reaching people for Christ by bringing people to us, than only trying to reach them where they are living.

Spiritual development happens best in a C-4™ Community. Spiritual growth is all about people and places. Who teens are with and where they are is very important. Jesus built His training strategy on a powerful spiritual principle – Christianity is caught more than taught. Yes, there is an important teaching component to disciple-making, but you catch Christianity the way you catch the flu, you catch it from being around someone who has it! Are You Trying to be Someone You’re Not?

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved…” Colossians 3:12a (ESV)

A friend of mine often reminds his children, “You are my children. I have given you my name. Honor it…and me. When you leave this house, you carry it with you. When you return, bring it back as good as it was when you left.” What a sobering consideration for a “Christian.”

When our twins entered their teenage years, Louise and I really tried to impress on them the importance of developing godly character. We found a plaque that emphasized developing a legacy and protecting the family name. We bought two and hung one in each boy’s room. Much like a Jewish boy would honor a Mezuzah when leaving his home, we prayed the boys would note this reminder when leaving their rooms.

The Apostle Paul often spoke about the importance of developing godly character. When addressing the believers in Colossae he reminded them that (we) are God’s chosen, holy, and beloved. He surely knew that our behavior only changes for the good when we are first conscious of our true identity. My friend Dudley Hall wrote an article on this subject, entitled “Remember Who You Are”. The following is an excerpt from Dudley’s excellent article:

“Israel was chosen. It was not because of the goodness or size of the people, but because God desired to utilize them to demonstrate His glory. He initiated the relationship. They weren’t looking for Him. He set His heart on a people with whom He would make a covenant. He obligated Himself to their wellbeing. They would be His servants on earth to represent Him to the nations and to bring the nations to Him. He chose them. It was that choice that gave them an identity. They were God’s people. Building Tradition within Men’s Ministry – Part One

As an introduction, think about the following question:

When men and women think of the men’s ministry in your church, what comes to their mind?

The answer to this question will help you understand if any particular event is building a tradition. It could be anything depending on the size, demographic, and culture of your church. When an event develops a tradition, men and their families put it on their calendar before the marketing begins! This is a critical factor in seeing your men’s ministry turn the corner to long lasting fruitfulness.

Building tradition around an annual event is a great way to give the guys in your church a single, significant point on the calendar that can serve as something to look forward to and something they feel comfortable inviting a friend or relative to attend with them.

We just completed the Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference in Spokane Valley, WA. As many of you know, Men’s Ministry Catalyst gives out a very impressive sword to the church that attends with the highest percentage of their men the furthest distance from the event. This year, that award was won by Pastor Ken Osso from the First Church of the Nazarene in Missoula, MT. What is interesting is that Pastor Ken promoted this event as part of their men’s retreat. He booked a facility on a nearby lake with suitable accommodations for his 26 guys and they rolled into town Friday afternoon. Over dinner at a favorite local restaurant, they discussed their plans for attending the ISI the next day and what they were looking forward to at the event. On Saturday, they attended the ISI in Spokane Valley. Saturday evening, with sword in hand, they took off to a well-known steakhouse just outside of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (Wolf Lodge Steakhouse for the win!) and discussed what they learned, what challenges were uncovered, and what commitments they made at the ISI. Then Sunday morning, they attended church at a local Nazarene church in Post Falls, grabbed lunch afterwards, and headed back home.

Ken and his group created a full retreat weekend out of the Iron Sharpens Iron Conference and it left a lasting mark on the men who attended with him. In fact, they’re already planning for next year’s event. They have now created a tradition. Because of what Ken’s group did and in discussing it with at least two other pastors who attended, our guess is that at least two more men’s groups from those churches will adopt this same model. Using an event such as Iron Sharpens Iron to the advantage of your church’s men’s ministry is an excellent way to help you establish a tradition among your men that has spiritual impact and gives them opportunity to invite other guys to join them.

April 2013 Ministry Update

Spring has sprung! God is doing amazing and awesome things through Men’s Ministry Catalyst and the Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference Events we have been sponsoring so far in 2013. Praise the Lord for the way He is moving among the men who attend these conferences and seek to delve into a deeper relationship with God and with each other.

In March, the Danville ISI drew almost 800 men to this feature packed one day event. And now, we’re coming off of another Holy Spirit filled event in Spokane Valley, WA. The responses we’ve received from both of these events have been extremely encouraging and positive. Men definitely walked away from these two events with the tools, relationships, and guidance needed to live more boldly for Christ in their families, churches, and communities.

We also completed a Special Kids Day in Northern California that drew over 600 children and volunteers. This special outdoor event took place on April 10th at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, CA. We spent an awesome day outside fishing, boating, playing games, eating, and enjoying the great outdoors with some amazing young folks and volunteers.

Now we’re preparing for our final ISI event for the spring season. Please be praying for our team, the speakers, and the men who will be attending the ISI Conference in Boise, ID on May 4th. We’re excited about this new territory that God has presented to us and we’re eager to see how He is glorified through this upcoming event.

Finally, we would appreciate your prayers for our Senior Support Associate, Brandon Aldridge and his wife, Tara. Tara is expecting to bring their new baby boy into the world any time now. Please be praying for Tara and their son that everyone will remain healthy through the delivery. Also, keep Brandon in your prayers too…he’s one excited daddy! We will miss having Brandon with us in Boise, but we’re excited for him and his wife during this incredibly special time for their family.

Reggie Mastin

Many of you may already know that Reggie Mastin passed away early Monday morning, April 1, 2013. Not only was Reggie a great supporter of Men’s Ministry Catalyst and one of our wonderful board members, he was a friend and brother in Christ.

Reggie was friends with everyone! No matter where we went – he was always running into somebody that he had met (and remembered). You could be in an airport in a different state, at a large event, or sitting in a restaurant – and it seemed that he knew someone there. Reggie loved people: sharing, praying, laughing, and loving. Best of all, Reggie loved Jesus and served Him faithfully.

Reggie has been involved with MMC since the late 90s – serving on the board when we were still known as Let’s Go Fishing Ministries. In 2011 he accepted the offer to join the board of MMC and has been active since that time.

Heaven is an even more wonderful place now that Reggie has arrived. We know that he’s there singing out loudly with the heavenly choir (he had a beautiful singing voice).

We will miss him, his wisdom, and his guidance in our lives and ministry. MMC now has an awesome champion in Heaven spurring us on to continue ministering to men and to keep pressing on for the sake of the Gospel message.

Spokane Valley Pastors Workshop

On March 20, 2013 we held a pastors workshop in Spokane Valley, WA at Valley Assembly Church. We were pleased to meet with over 20 pastors and mens ministry leaders from the inland northwest.

Through rich discussion, great question and answer sessions, and an informative presentation from Dr. Grassi the men who attended left encouraged and better equipped to launch and maintain excellent men’s ministries within their local churches.

There was a great deal of discussion on reaching the younger generations of men and MMC is excited about the means and methods that several local churches are embracing to embrace, equip, and encourage the younger men within their spheres of influence.

Happy Easter

On behalf of Men’s Ministry Catalyst we want to wish you a Happy Easter. The precious gift of eternal life was given to us by our loving Savior and because of His sacrifice on Calvary’s Cross and resurrection we can rejoice. In his epistle, the apostle Peter reminds us about the grace God bestowed upon us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5

Through Christ we are redeemed, through Him we are saved from the great fall of sin. And through Him we are saved from eternal damnation. Our greatest gift to our Heavenly Father is to live a transparent and obedient life that radiates His love and grace so that others might be drawn to Him. During the holiday gathering surrounding Easter let’s not be ashamed to bolding proclaim the message of Easter.

To God be the glory.

We Be Jammin’

James and Whitney just returned from some tough ministry work…on a cruise…to Jamaica…and the Cayman Islands. Someone had to do it – right? :)

MMC is pleased that James and Whitney were invited to be a part of The Real Relationship Cruise that took place this past week. James was invited as a speaker to encourage men to step up as the leaders of their most important earthly relationship – the one with their wife!

Here are a few of the great comments that were received as a result of the cruise survey from attendees:

“I can apply what I’ve learned not only in my marriage, but also with my family and friends”

“We learned our love languages were the same. We set our family mission statements and commitments.”

“We learned where we needed to focus on building our relationship.”

So, not only was this a good time of relaxation for James and Whitney – they were also able to encourage a great number of married couples in their walks with God and their relationships with each other.

Five Productivity Tools for Your Smartphone

Your smartphone is a powerful tool and oftentimes we fall into the habit of just using it to update our Facebook status, send/check email, and of course…call people. Here are few simple tools that can help you benefit from your smartphone and increase your productivity.

1. Bible – YouVersion, Olive Tree, and Logos Bible are some of the most popular choices here. It all comes down to personal preferences since each of these apps has so many great features built-in. In our opinion, you can’t go wrong with any one of these three great apps. The point is to have one of them on your phone and use it.

2. Calendar/Alerts – Whether you have an iPhone, Android, Windows, or you’re one of those guys still holding onto a Blackberry, it has a powerful calendar in there somewhere. Best of all, you can set it to stay in sync with the calendar on your desktop or laptop computer. Learning to use your calendar and the alert system within it can be an invaluable asset to maintaining a good schedule and ensuring you don’t miss important events and meetings. Continue reading

Everyone Has a Role

I’ve asked this question already: Are you a spectator or a participant? Football stadiums are filled with millions of folks who sit comfortably munching favorite snacks while watching others use their gifts and talents in pursuit of a goal. It’s amazing to watch players work so hard through the challenges.

Each player toils at his job, hoping to win his individual battles. There are times when it seems the energy and tension on the field is almost palpable. Each player brings a dynamic to the game: for some it’s about intimidation; for others it’s a quiet but powerful exercise of God-given abilities; with a few players the battle is won through analysis and applied wisdom. “Just Do It” – It’s a phrase we’ve heard many, many times that has become iconic for the monstrous sportswear brand, Nike. Yes, it’s overused in a multitude of ways and it is sometimes tiresome to hear. It’s a problematic phrase…because it’s 100% accurate and applicable in so many aspects of life.

“This is where the rubber meets the road”
“This is when the cream is going to rise”
“Actions speak louder than words”

Knowledge is great. What you glean from your pastor’s sermons, your men’s Bible study group, your personal devotions, and all of the other good things you’re involved in that increase your knowledge of God’s Word and how to deepen your relationship with Him. Are You a Missional Leader?

The concept of missional leadership isn’t a new one – it’s been around forever. However, intentionality in leadership seems to get overlooked at times simply because of busyness and the desire to just get things done. Unfortunately, those excuses can have negative, long lasting effects that run counter to what Christ modeled for us as the ultimate missional leader.

Seizing the Season

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, On Sale Now, Free Shipping, 15% off…are you tired of hearing these phrases over the past few weeks? It seems our nation is under a full assault to just buy, buy, buy…because that’s what it’s all about at this time of the year. Right?

Wrong. What are you doing to reclaim the Christmas season for your family? How are you maintaining the focus on celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Here are a few ideas to help you keep your focus and that of your family members on the true reason for the season:

  1. The Birth of Christ – Read it, watch it, listen to it. Lead your family through a reading of the Biblical account of Christ’s birth, watch it in a movie, or listen to an audio version of the story of Christ’s birth. Christmas should be considered one of those “teachable” moments for you as a dad. It’s one of those natural opportunities for you to share with your children about Jesus Christ. Another idea is to celebrate Advent with them. This is a great way to incorporate daily family time in God’s Word into the busy holiday season. Make it a priority and establish it as a tradition for your family. Focus on the Family has a very good article full of tips on Making Meaningful Christmas Memories.
  2. Move the focus off of getting and shift the focus on to what you and your family can give this season. It’s important to reinforce giving over getting. Consider signing your family up to purchase a gift for an Angel Tree child. Give a gift through WorldVision. The options are endless. Opportunities to teach your children (at any age) the importance of giving abound. Talk to your pastor about ways that you can impact a local family or organization through giving a gift as a family.
  3. Serve. In an effort to reinforce #2, look for opportunities to serve within your community. Whether it’s cutting and hauling wood for an elderly couple, shoveling snow for a widow, or serving at a homeless shelter, find a way to get your family involved in a project. Proverbs 22:9 says, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” Teach your family the value in serving and generosity.
  4. Encourage. In all of the activities you choose to incorporate into your Christmas season, encourage your family to read their Bible, pray, and ask God to show them how to be His hands and feet during the holidays and beyond.
  5. Pray. Pray for your spouse, pray for your family. Pray that through all of this that God will become more real to them. Pray that they will desire to serve, give, and glorify Him every day.

Let’s seize the season for Christ! Glorify and honor Him with your attitude, actions, and words this Christmas season. Merry Christmas!

Men and Contentment

As we approach the end of 2012, many of us will consider making New Year’s Resolutions. Goals will be set for self, family goals identified, professional development benchmarks will be set, financial plans will be listed, targets for ministry will be made, the list goes on and on. But, how many of us will set out to attain contentment during 2013? Wow…that’s something different, isn’t it?

As followers of Christ, our goals and our calling should be different. The apostle Paul lays this out for us in Philippians 4:4-13:

“4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. 10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

In this passage, Paul gives us 4 steps toward achieving contentment in Christ.

  1. Paul says we are to rejoice (verse 4). If we truly desire contentment, we have to begin by rejoicing – regardless of our circumstances.
  2. In verse 6, Paul says to pray “in every situation”. Here’s the skinny – less worry, more prayer.
  3. Keep our focus on good things (verse 8). Does verse 8 describe the things you think about? Most likely, your answer is “no”. Remember the phrase, “garbage in, garbage out”? That is the exact principle here. If we desire to deepen our relationship with God and be content in Him, we have to fill our hearts and minds with good things.
  4. Live out what you have learned (verse 9). It’s not enough to just know God’s Word. We have to live it out. Are you being a “Paul” for your sons, grandsons, and other young men that you know? Paul says, “whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put into practice.” That’s a tall order. Can the same be said of your example to others? If we’re to learn contentment, we need to put into practice the principles from God’s Word, even during the hard times.

The contentment that Paul is addressing in Philippians 4 is that which rises out of a deep relationship with God. As we delve more into God’s Word and invest in a deeper prayer life, we begin to truly understand the magnitude of what God has done for us. In response to that, we gain a greater understanding of what’s truly important in this life – cultivating a spirit of contentment out of gratefulness and humility. This appreciation of what God has accomplished on our part changes our perception of what is truly meaningful. Contentment isn’t something that is found or purchased. True contentment comes through learning to let go of our selfish ways and putting into practice God’s way of doing things. We pray that you will allow God to be your strength and your contentment into the new year and beyond.

Five Free Helpful Software Resources for Your Ministry

As a ministry group or non-profit organization, the last thing you want to be spending money on is unnecessary, expensive computer software that you only need to use periodically. Thankfully, there are many free or open-source software options that are available for you – regardless of whether you’re a “mac or a pc guy”. Here are a few suggestions for programs that will save you money and boost your productivity.

Audacity: Audacity is an open-source audio editing program that is available for both Mac and Windows operating systems. It has the ability to record live audio from sermons, worship sessions, and then edit, mix, and splice the sound to your liking. If there is an unpleasant buzz in the background of the audio, Audacity can remove it and any other unwanted background noises. You may also use it to clean up audio files that you’ve recorded on other devices (mp3 recorders, your smartphone, etc). Simply open Audacity, locate the file on your computer, open it, and edit to your liking. Audacity also gives you the ability to save your cleaned audio file in a number of popular formats.

Open Office: One of the most commonly used open-source software packages, Open Office is a free alternative to Microsoft Office, which can be rather pricey. The software suite includes a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation maker, and more. It can be used on almost all operating systems for any purpose, and is available in many different languages. Best of all, it can read and save files in multiple formats so there will be no difficulty transferring files to users of other office programs.

Libre Office: Similar to Open Office, Libre Office is a free office software suite that can be used for any purpose. The six programs they offer have a consistent, very simple, clutter-free user interface and its open source code can be customized and tweaked to your organization’s liking.

TNEF: If your ministry prefers to use the Mac OSX platform, it’s likely that you will run into some occasional difficulties opening files that originated from other operating systems. Thankfully, the free TNEF program is available to assist Mac users in opening files that were sent from Windows users. TNEF’s Enough allows Macs to read and extract files from Microsoft TNEF stream files. The files are usually received by SMTP based e-mail programs from Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook users. The SMTP based e-mail program will usually receive either a MIME attachment named “winmail.dat” or a MIME attachment with the type “application/ms-tnef.”

Smart Converter: This video file conversion program has been the number downloaded video converter in the Mac APP store for over 1 ½ years. Created by ShedWorx, Smart Converter is available for Mac or PC users. Smart Converter features a simple to use drag, drop, and convert interface that supports 100’s of media formats and will convert your video into the format you desire. This is a great tool for ministries who may receive video from a volunteer’s camera and needs to convert it for use on their website or in a presentation.

These are a few tools that we at Men’s Ministry Catalyst have used on occasion and have found helpful. We hope that you’ll be able to use one of them with your ministry. Celebrating 32 Years of Doing TOGETHER What Could NOT Be Done Alone

November 2012

Dear Friends of MMC,

God is moving to ignite men with a passion to better serve their families, churches, and communities. Over the past 32 years, faithful givers and prayer warriors, like you, have empowered us to stay focused on our calling. The investment of your time in reading this letter will help you understand how your prayers and encouragement can help change the world one man at a time. We send our year-end letter in response to Revelation 1:19, which says: “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now, and what will take place later.”

Current events have caused many people to feel hopeless and frustrated. Yet through the lens of biblical prophecy it all makes sense. As Jesus stated to the Jewish leaders who were instrumental in having Jesus crucified, “My Kingdom is not of this world… But now my kingdom is from another place” John 18:36-37. In light of the prophecies found in Ezekiel 38-39, Daniel 12, Matthew 24, and the book of Revelation as well as the headlines filling our newspapers we have to ask ourselves two questions: Am I ready for Christ’s return? Whom do I need to talk to about Jesus?

➢ Using our proven men’s outreach tools and resources will add many new Pastors and Men’s Ministry Workshops to our schedule
➢ Both Logos Bible Software and Thomas Nelson Publishers are using MMC materials to form a men’s ministry platform to assist those that desire to reach men
➢ Guts, Grace and Glory (Jim Grassi’s new book) is complete and he is working on four more discipleship books that will be finished over the next 18 months
➢ The MMC team is also developing new concepts and plans that will assist the 7,000 churches and several denominations already receiving our materials.

At a time when demonic activity is at an all time high, Men’s Ministry Catalyst and our partners, like you, have taken the gospel to churches and men around the world. Through our extensive resources, messages, books, and conferences God has used us to change the lives and hearts of the spiritual leader of a home – man. C. S. Lewis and other respected scholars are right when they say if you capture the heart of a man you can change the dynamics of a nation.

Many of you are aware that the Pastor’s Workshops and Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Equipping Conferences sponsored by MMC have spread throughout the west. The testimonies we heard at the Pastor’s Workshop in Oakland, CA. were so powerful and emotional. Many inner-city African American pastors struggle with how to capture the hearts of young black men who can get involved in destructive activities during their youth. At the close of our presentation D.C., a middle-aged black man, came up to us and said, “I’m here today to learn more about becoming a full-time men’s ministry pastor. Last year you came to the Solano State Prison where I had been an inmate for many years. Your inspiration and the power of the Holy Spirit transformed my life. Now I’m a free man and I want to become a good role model for other guys struggling with the issues that got me into trouble.” The emotion in his voice as he spoke with us strongly conveyed his love and commitment to his mission of working with men.

Dr. Kevin Barnes, a well-respected pastor in Oakland, is working with MMC to create a model to reach men who wouldn’t otherwise attend church in an effort to change the inner-city culture. As this model is finalized, we hope to implement it in other inner-city areas. As D.C.’s pastor, Dr. Barnes has seen the impact MMC can make in the lives of men. Working together we can see a spiritual revolution or reformation take place in cities like Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Boise, Spokane, Denver, and Missoula. In order to continue to make a difference, we need your continued partnership.

The Iron Sharpens Iron Conference in San Francisco was crucial to the area because we went into the heart of the lion’s den—the Tenderloin District. Dozens of men came forward to accept Christ and commit themselves to following God’s Word. With tears in his eyes one of the elders of the sponsoring church said, “We didn’t think anyone would ever come to our city to do a conference like this. Most outreach ministries are afraid of our diverse culture and all the surrounding sin and crime. Thank you for coming! You have changed our church and community.”

Businessmen often talk about ROI – return on investment. MMC’s partners, like you, have helped us inspire, equip, encourage, and challenge men to become the spiritual leaders of their homes, communities, churches, and nation.

In September, the National Coalition of Ministries to Men presented MMC with the prestigious Men’s Ministry of the Year Award. Being recognized with an award is great, but the greatest reward comes from knowing we help pastors and men’s leaders within churches, like yours, by equipping them with biblically based plans and innovative resources that reach men! The ROI is evident — thanks to the support of ministry partners like you.

God continues to open many doors of opportunity for us to serve and challenge thousands of men and their families to follow Christ. In addition to assisting with conferences, retreats, workshops, Special Kid’s Day Programs for the Disabled and scores of men’s programs, our recent energies have also been devoted to assisting and encouraging pastors in their efforts to reach more men for Christ. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of strain on most pastors’ marriages and families and few people are adequately equipped to assist these servants/leaders. The cultural complexity and dynamics of the 21st century have created high levels of stress for many pastors and their churches.

MMC IS ONE OF VERY FEW ORGANIZATIONS WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND RESOURCES TO ACTUALLY HELP CONNECT MEN WITH CHRIST’S MISSION AND THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH, AND THEN HELP GROW THEM INTO MATURE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST. GOD HAS PLACED A SENSE OF URGENCY ON OUR HEARTS – WE PRAY THAT YOU SENSE IT TOO.

Only with your continued support can we continue helping churches pray, plan, and execute an effective ministry to men that intentionally transforms men into the likeness of Christ. OUR 2013 STRATEGY: Strengthening Relationships & Rallying Men
So what does this next year hold? God is leading us to focus our efforts on churches in the Western United States, with a desire to strengthen our relationships with them by providing even more coaching, resources, discipleship training, and regional men’s events. The impact – more men intentionally transformed into the likeness of Christ. The strategy – provide excellence in training and teaching through carefully designed messages, programs, and resources.

OUR CHALLENGE: Raising Up a New Generation of Faith Partners
Despite numerous salary reductions and budget cuts, we unfortunately anticipate finishing the 2012 fiscal year with a $49,500 deficit. In order to sustain our work with men and their church leaders, we are in need of more monthly faith partners willing to coming alongside us through regular giving. If 10 families gave $83/month (or a one-time gift of $1000), we could assist 10 churches that otherwise couldn’t afford our services. And if 50 families pledged to give just $30/month, that would help keep the mission of Men’s Ministry Catalyst funded. Or if 100 families were able to give only $10/month, we would rejoice in so many families doing together what we cannot do alone.

ISI Sacramento 2012 – Post Event Update

Wow. Praise the Lord! What an AWESOME Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference.

Since the day after last year’s ISI in Sacramento (Rancho Cordova), we have been praying for the 2012 event – that God would bring men out to the event and that their hearts/lives would be forever changed through the power of the Gospel Message.

God answered our prayersBIG TIME and showed up in a mighty way at First Covenant Church on Saturday October 20th. Our keynote speakers, Bryan Carter and Chuck Stecker, delivered challenging and powerful messages to the men. The worship team ROCKED the house and ushered the men into a great time of worship during the morning and afternoon sessions. The seminar speakers spoke to the men with conviction and roused them from their comfort zones on many different levels stirring within them a desire to dive deeper into their relationships with God.

From a crowd of over 600 men, ranging in age from 10 years old to 88 years of age, over 23 men gave their lives to Christ for the first time. And, we know of at least 62 men who recommitted their lives to Christ. Praise God! Men from over 60 churches attended – some from over 160 miles away. All of them walked away from a unique experience that ushered them into the presence of our loving Heavenly Father.

Thank you to those who have prayed over this event, who volunteered with us at this ISI, and thank you to those who attended this year’s ISI in Sacramento. We hope to see you next year. God Bless!

MMC Receives “2012 Established Men’s Ministry of the Year” Award

2012 Established Men's Ministry of the Year Award

Last week’s National Coalition of Ministries to Men‘s Annual Conference (NCMM Reload’12) was great. We enjoyed fantastic speakers, excellent workshops, and some much-needed fellowship with other men’s ministry leaders from all over the United States.

On Monday evening, during the first main session of the conference, NCMM announced the winner of the 2012 Established Men’s Ministry of the Year award….to US! While we certainly don’t labor for recognition and trophies here on earth, it’s refreshing and invigorating to have the hard work and dedication of our team here at MMC noticed by our peers. We’re thankful, humbled, and encouraged by this award. God is and has been doing great things through the churches we’re privileged to work with throughout Northern California, Idaho, and the rest of the Northwest.

We encourage you to continue to pray for us as we work during tough financial times, not only for MMC, but for the churches we work with who are unable to afford our services—yet we offer them anyway knowing that our God will continue to provide. Our mission is to inspire, engage, and equip men’s ministry leaders in these churches with tools, resources, and top-notch curriculum that they can use to deepen their own relationship with Christ and in turn be effective leaders of the men within their ministry. As they work with them, together we can see these men transformed into the likeness of Christ and make an impact for the Kingdom of God.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” - Matthew 6:19-21

To those of you that have faithfully prayed and supported the ministry of MMC over the years, we say “thank you”! We’re extremely grateful for your participation with us. You are not overlooked – you are an active part of this ministry. Just as Paul said in Philippians 1:3, “I thank my God every time I remember you”, we take that same posture with our relationship with every one of our faithful partners. We remember you often, we pray for you often, and we’re continually thankful for your involvement in this ministry.
