Experience the Benefit of MMC's Assistance

Considering engaging our services at your church, but need a little bit more evidence that we can bring value to your men's ministry efforts? We understand, and that's why we've created this "trial package".

Survey Your Men

One of the areas we believe you will receive tremendous benefit from as you set out to ramp up or simply re-charge your men's ministry is surveying the men of your congregation. Taking time to find out what the needs of your men are, and discovering who among your congregation is willing to serve will help steer you in the most efficient direction. And we've created some tools to help you.

Congregational Survey (in PDF format)

Ideas on How to Distribute

This 2-page survey can be distributed in a variety of ways. The goal is to get the greatest cross-section of men completing it as possible, so you get an accurate representation of your church body. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Distribute it at your next men's event - conduct a giveaway drawing from the surveys collected at the end of the event (must be present to win!) to motivate guys to turn them in
  2. Hand them out during your weekend service(s) - have your men's leaders offer to be greeters and hand a survey to each guy walking in to the service. Staff a table in your church lobby where you collect the completed surveys, and give out a piece of candy or something as a reward for turning them in.
  3. Mail the survey - offer some kind of incentive for returning the surveys - again, consider staffing a table in your church lobby the weekend after you've mailed them and give directions in the mailer about when & how to return them. Offer a piece of candy as a reward or enter their surveys in a drawing.

Inputting or Tallying the Data

You've got the completed surveys - NOW WHAT? We recommend you create an Excel template for data entry that will work for your team. The responsibility of maintaining this database of important information on the men in your congregation should be delegated to someone who has Excel expertise (and if you haven't identified someone like that before you begin, hopefully you will as a result of this survey!) The job of inputting the data into this Excel template could be done by the one of following types of people:

  • A teenage son or daughter of someone on your men's leadership team
  • An administrator or secretary in someone's business
  • Someone in the church office

If you don't currently have someone available to input all of the data, and the quantity of your surveys is relatively small, we have created a more manual method of tallying the results. We've provided a worksheet that can simply be PRINTED OUT (in PDF) and used to manually TALLY the answers from each survey.

Summarizing the Data

Once the data is entered, your Excel expert will be needed to analyze the results. The power of this database lies in the ability you will have to sort the data according to people's areas of interest and willingness to lead. Ultimately, you will be able to create lists of people interested in participating in any given area mentioned on the survey, complete with their contact info, and then deliver that to the person who indicated an interest in leading.

Again, if you don't have someone able to manage the input process, we have provided another template that can be PRINTED OUT (in PDF) and used to record the TOTALs from your tally worksheet.

This manual summary can then be combined with any other information gleaned from the surveys to report back to your senior pastor and men's council, giving direction on what your men need to grow in Christ and reach out to others.

We are here to help!
